Get Rid of Pests the Natural Way

Stop bugging out!

Here are some helpful ways to get rid of pests simply and many times naturally.

Whatever the pest problem, there are numerous simple and unique ways to deter the creepies, crawlies, and the downright disgusting bothersome critters that try to invade our living spaces.

Here are some of our favorite ways of dealing with pests.

Mosquitoes

  • Skin So Soft – by Avon – Yep, it works well for many us.
  • Dryer Sheets – Some swear by it. And since I can’t recall ever being bitten by one when I’ve unknowingly had a dryer sheet stuck to me (which is quite often), I will have to give the benefit of the doubt on this one.
  • Catnip – Yep, catnip. Really? That’s what they say. Wear it around your neck like garlic (or in one of those little sacks thingies) or apply catnip oil (or an oil blended with catnip) directly to your skin for hours of protection… from mosquitoes… but beware, you are on your own with felines needing a fix.
  • Lavender Oil and Peppermint Oil – Mix it and place near doors and windows. Lavender also works for scorpions and spiders (or so they say).

Flies
Wait, aren’t they the same thing as mosquitoes? Nope, not really. Well, maybe. While the above may work, here are some fly-specific options.

  • Basil – Load up your potted herb garden with basil and put it by your door. Add some fresh basil to your catnip sack and double your fun.
  • Vinegar (mixed with water – 50/50) – Good on french fries also. Also works for ants.

Ants

  • Vinegar (mixed with water – 50/50) – Good on french fries also. Also works for flies.
  • Borax – They will take it back to their nest… sooner or later. Also works for fleas.

Spiders

Fleas

  • Borax – It will dry ’em out. Also works for ants.

Fruit Flies

Bunny Rabbits
Are rabbits really pests? Just ask someone with a garden.

  • Marigolds – Didn’t believe it until we tried it. Some say it doesn’t work at all. For us, it worked really well.

Deer

  • Irish Spring – Slice it, shave it, shred it – supposedly deer will avoid it. Apparently works for squirrels in the attic.

Squirrels

  • Irish Spring – Stick it in your attic. Apparently keeps deer out of your garden, too.
