Best Juicers for 2013

Best Juicers for 2013

The good folks at The Good Housekeeping Research Institute have selected their best juicers for 2013 and we weigh in with a few added picks of our own.

The Breville line-up always earns a well-deserved shout-out for performance and two of their models make The Good Housekeeping Research Institute’s top picks. Also receiving mentions are the Omega Mega Mouth 330 Juicer and the Krups Juice Extractor.

For a very quick overview of these machines, you can read the Good Housekeeping review here.

Back in early January, we posted the following article on juicing: http://chaos40.com/2013/01/05/stay-the-course-start-juicing/

We asked important questions that will help you find the right juicer for you, such as:

  • How much juice does a juicer juice?
  • What’s the best value juicer?
  • Do I need a multi-speed juicer?
  • Can I really lose weight juicing?

Some of the answers are easy, some are not, and some just depend on user preference. To see the complete list of questions, please read our previous post.

When looking for a juicer, you can basically expect to get similar juice output from a value machine as you can from a more expensive machine. However, this is NOT true for all value machines so shop wisely. Some of the differences between a low cost machine and high cost machine include:

  • plastic vs. stainless steel
  • motor reliability
  • durability
  • noise
  • warranty
  • ease of clean-up

My personal experience has been that ease-of-clean-up is much more important than the 5-10 minutes of noise the juicer makes when juicing. However, if you live in an apartment or townhouse, noise may become one of the most important features to consider.

Obviously, being extremely VALUE conscious, I went the budget route and have found that I’m very satisfied with the “Juice-for-the-buck” I’ve gotten from the Big Boss.  Here is a quick video comparison I found (as posted in January) of a Breville and a Big Boss.
